Taking place from 6-10 March in Port Elizabeth, this year’s
SASA congress attracted delegates and speakers from all over the country and
the world. The congress kicked of with a variety of workshops including Research
and Publishing, Operating Theatre Management, Airway Simulation and Endoscopy, Regional
Anaesthesia, and Basic and Advanced FATE workshops.
Plenary sessions covered the important topics of burnout in
physicians, major adverse events in non-cardiac surgery and opioid free general
anaesthesia. The conference concluded with an extensive session on Ethics and
the Law focusing on issues such as what anaesthesiologists need to know about
the law, what to do when things go wrong and the ethical challenges of social
media in the healthcare context.
Dr Fourie de Kock, was
announced as the new SASA President, taking over the reins from Prof Bruce Biccard.
