The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) has announced that stability has been restored at the SA Municipal Workers Union Medical Aid Scheme (SAMWUMED) four months after final curatorship was granted by court.
To ensure the scheme’s long-term sustainability, the CMS appointed seasoned curator Joe Seolane in October 2018 after removing the previous curator, Duduza Khosana, after allegations of misconduct.
“We have introduced governance structures and systems that assist the schemes to deliver on its mandate,” Seolane has noted in the CMS announcement.
“This means addressing the immediate gaps in our systems, as well as other internal and external challenges – including establishing provider networks – enhancing the accountability mechanisms with our respective service providers.
“All these interventions are for the benefit of our members, including engagements with the respective employers groups,” Seolane added.
