The funding of PPE for confirmed cases and an amendment to radiology codes are included in the latest updated version (V4) of the COVID-19 PMB Definition Guideline released this week by the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS).
Also added has been the inclusion of palliative care; a recommendation on corticosteroid use, remdesivir, chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine prophylaxis, convalescent plasma; an emphasis on blood saturation results not gases for oxygen funding; and the inclusion of non-invasive ventilation
“This guideline seeks to clarify PMB entitlements of medical scheme beneficiaries within the context of the pandemic, ensuring that there is uniform interpretation amongst all stakeholders,” the CMS notes once again in its introductory note.
“It sets out recommendations for the screening, diagnosis, treatment and care of individuals with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 as per WHO case definitions.”
