As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa, the National Institute for Infectious Diseases has updated the National Guidelines for Novel Coronavirus case-finding, diagnosis, management and public health response in the country.
The new version of the guidelines now includes:
Updated case definition
Updated general epidemiologic information on outbreak
Updated information on first confirmed cases in South Africa
Clarification that contact information should be collected from contacts from the date of symptom onset
Updated referral hospital list
All practitioners are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these guidelines and incorporate them into local practice.
According to SAMA, unforeseen issues are arising at practice level as members of the public become increasingly concerned. The association says its working with partners to address these specific issues and make formal recommendations around them.
