The organising committee of this year’s 20th Annual BHF Southern African Conference have announced that Dr Imtaz Ismail Sooliman, chairman and founder of the South African-based internationally active and respected Gift of the Givers Foundation, will be among the featured participants in this year’s event taking place from 21 to 24 July at the Cape Town ICC.

A 1984 graduate of the University of Natal Medical School, Sooliman opened his private practice in Pietermaritzburg in 1986. This he closed in June 1994 to concentrate fully on Gift of the Givers which he had established two years’ earlier.

Main objective of the BHF Conference will be to create a full understanding of the trends driving convergence in the region’s health systems – not least the role of inter-sectoral convergence in the delivery of health services.

Theme, therefore, will be “Convergence 2030 – Healthcare reimagined”, a huge part of the proceedings being dedicated to understanding the role of multisectoral convergence in delivering quality health services.

Issues to be addressed in this regard among the carefully selected topics and presentations will be why it is important for scaling up, strengthening accountability, defining efficiency and not least, health system reforms.
