Message from the Chair

Dr Christa van der Walt

Our lives and that of all our citizens have been materially impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The so-called Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus is prevalent in South Africa and spreading fast. This trend will mostly probably repeat itself with subsequent variants. Many have lost family and friends and have had to adapt to a way of live that integrates Covid protocols (wearing of masks in public, sanitising and social distancing). Healthcare professionals bear the brunt of caring for the sick while at the same time having protected themselves and their loved ones.

This online conference will explore this phenomenon as well as the future of the nursing workforce during and after the pandemic and in anticipation of future pandemics. Nurse leaders should take the lead in patient care and, in coordinating the care provided by other healthcare professionals. This conference will focus on the health and well-being of the nursing workforce and how has been and continues to be transformed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

We will also explore the scope of inter-professional collaboration and inter-sectoral partnerships.
